This week Ceri chats with Russell Owen, one of the countries leading competition anglers. Russell talks of the exciting times ahead at Clywedog with a new lodge planned to open next March and what makes it one the UK’s premier waters. He also gives advice to anyone fishing this quality Mid Wales venue plus it’s history and some stories from over the years including the time former US president Jimmy Carter came to fish.
This week Ceri chats with Emyr Lewis. Not only is he an experienced angler with many competition titles to his name he also worked as a river board bailiff for Welsh Water for 40 years. He fishes nowadays at his local lake, Llyn Clywedog where he has had a number of big trout. His stories as a bailiff on the river will have you riveted to your seat as well as in tears so much so that the podcast has been made into two parts with part two coming up next month.
This week Ceri chats with Justin Connolly. He has fished the River Usk for over 30 years and now guides on the Glan Usk Estate and at Gliffaes. He is a qualified instructor with GAIA and has a love for doublehand casting. He tells of how he got into fly fishing as a small boy and his new passion of pike on the fly.
This week Ceri shares a boat with English International Simon Kidd at Wimbleball Reservoir, Somerset. After a successful day afloat they head to the nearby George Inn to record this podcast. Simon tells how he came into fly fishing as a young lad, his success in the competition scene and his work as a marketing and sales manager at Snowbee UK.

I meet up with him at the Beacons Reservoir situated in the magnificent Brecon Beacons National Park for a days fishing on the last week of the season. He also tells us his methods and tactics for catching in both day and night plus his concerns for the decline of stocks coming into the Welsh rivers in recent years.

This week Ceri chats with Stuart Foxall, who is without doubt one of the leading flytyers in the country and has recently made his passion into a full time profession. His Salmon flies are in high demand from anglers worldwide. He also guides and gives double handed tuition in British Columbia where he has fished for over 14 years. He talks of his trips to Scotland and Alaska and his passion for Atlantic and Pacific Salmon and also steelhead.

This week Ceri chats with Paul Slaney. Paul is an extremely talented fly tyer from South Wales and held in high regard by anglers worldwide. He talks of how he got into tying, shows, and more recent his online Zoom demonstrations. He has a degree in design and his creative side comes across in his tying. He also talks of his love for fly fishing his local river, the Usk and tells of his many travels including the time he fell off a boat and was surrounded by feeding sharks!
This week Ceri chats with Fish Scientist, James Barry. Living in Waterford, Ireland it is no surprise he has a love for fishing for Bass and Salmon, and talks about the Copper Coast and both River Suir and Slaney. He has a phd in fish behavior and tells us of how the moon setting and rising can affect fish catches, plus studies of Ferox Trout and chats about his recent trip up to Lough Sheelin.
