This week Ceri chats with Fishing in Wales, Marketing Manager, Ceri Thomas. I meet up with him at the Beacons Reservoir situated in the magnificent Brecon Beacons National Park for a days fishing on the last week of the season. After having a successful mornings sport we headed to the island for a cuppa and record this podcast. He tells us how his season has been and talks about the great fishing Wales has to offer.
This week Ceri talks about his methods and techniques which has given him success fly fishing for Bass at estuaries along the South Wales coast. What tackle to use, lines, flies, tide times and best times to catch.
This week Ceri chats with England International, Steve Pope at Blagdon Lake, Somerset where he has fished for over 50 years. He has many International caps including gaining the brown bowl. He tells us the history of Blagdon Lake and the changes he has seen, plus how the browns from Ubley hatchery were sent to stock the rivers of the South Island, New Zealand.
This week Ceri chats with Welsh International, Tim Llewellyn at the bankside of his local water Talybont Reservoir in the Brecon Beacons National Park. He talks of his passion for Talybont, wild trout and his success in the competition scene. Tells us stories of his big browns he has caught at Grafham Water and Lough Corrib plus his love for early season buzzer fishing during the duckfly.
This week Ceri chats with Welsh Sea Trout specialist, Illtyd Griffiths. He talks of his passion for sea trout and the River Dyfi and shares his knowledge taken from over 60 years experience. He also tells us his methods and tactics for catching in both day and night plus his concerns for the decline of stocks coming into the Welsh rivers in recent years.
This week Ceri visits Llyn Fawr reservoir, his local water in South Wales. He fishes for the quality rainbows at evening time and sets up with dries to catch them as they come into the shallows to feed at last light. Ceri talks through his tactics plus goes on to tell of the history of this picturesque lake which dates back to the iron age.
This week Ceri chats with Stuart Foxall, who is without doubt one of the leading flytyers in the country and has recently made his passion into a full time profession. His Salmon flies are in high demand from anglers worldwide. He also guides and gives double handed tuition in British Columbia where he has fished for over 14 years. He talks of his trips to Scotland and Alaska and his passion for Atlantic and Pacific Salmon and also steelhead.
This week Ceri tells of his passion for the Ferox trout of Lough Corrib, County Galway. How it all started, and the journey leading up to his record catch. He talks of his dedication and the hours, weeks, months and years he has spent on the lough fishing, learning and understanding the behavior and feeding habits of the ferox. He also goes on to talk about taxidermy and the cased fish in the bars in the West of Ireland.
This week Ceri chats with John Horsey, England’s most capped International fly-fishing angler.. I meet up with him at his local water, Chew Valley where he has been a full time guide and instructor for over 29 years. He talks of the changes in fly hatches during that time and what to expect this season. He also chats about his involvement in the competition scene as both competitor and organiser, plus the changes and future of Bristol Reservoirs.
This week Ceri chats with Paul Slaney. Paul is an extremely talented fly tyer from South Wales and held in high regard by anglers worldwide. He talks of how he got into tying, shows, and more recent his online Zoom demonstrations. He has a degree in design and his creative side comes across in his tying. He also talks of his love for fly fishing his local river, the Usk and tells of his many travels including the time he fell off a boat and was surrounded by feeding sharks!
This week Ceri chats with Fish Scientist, James Barry. Living in Waterford, Ireland it is no surprise he has a love for fishing for Bass and Salmon, and talks about the Copper Coast and both River Suir and Slaney. He has a phd in fish behavior and tells us of how the moon setting and rising can affect fish catches, plus studies of Ferox Trout and chats about his recent trip up to Lough Sheelin.
This week Ceri chats with Welsh fly fishing international and Brown Bowl winner, David Hoppe. As well as talking about his fly fishing he tells us about his passion for catching large Zander from Rutland Water, plus fishing from his kayak on the Welsh coast for Tope. This guy got balls!!!
This week Ceri chats with passionate competition angler, Sean Jones. He has many Welsh international fly fishing caps and captaincies under his belt and currently captain of Team Fasna. He is equaly at home fishing lakes and rivers but loves fishing his local waters of Penderyn and Ystradfellte for his pleasure fishing. He gives us an insight of what’s in his box and talks about barbless hooks and his goals for 2021.
This week Ceri chats with talented and inovating Irish fly tyer, Neil Darling. He is Pro Tyer and ambassador for Ahrex Hooks and Vicuna Dubbing. As well as chatting about his fly tying background and notably his creative scud patterns, he tells us about his passion for encouraging children into fishing.
