Casting With Ceri Jones : Ep. 215 Jackie Mons

This week I met up with Irish boat building legend Jackie Mons at his workshop close to the shores of Lough Corrib. He has been building traditional timber boats since the age of 16. He has recently retired but still restores and repairs some of his customers boats. I wanted to catch up with Jackie before he closes his workshop doors for the last time. He talks of how it all started and what it takes to build these sort after magnificent works of art.

He talks about how the team won and tactics which brought them success. He goes on to tell us of his Brown Bowl achievement at the Senior International at Lough Melvin last year, plus his love for Lough Conn and Lene.

This week’s episode I chat with one of Ireland’s most successful Ladies International anglers, Linda Straghan. She has 11 caps and 2 Brown Bowls to her name. She tells us how she started fishing and gives advice to women wanting to get into the sport and her top flies which has brought her so much success on the competition scene. She also goes on to say how fly-fishing has helped her through cancer, a truly inspirational woman.
