Casting With Ceri Jones : Episode 200: My Story

This week's podcast episode is a special one for me. I never thought when I started back in 2020 during lockdown I would one day be celebrating 200 episodes.

I have had an amazing time and also made some great friends along the way. A big thanks to all my guests, listeners and especially to the patrons of my channel.

I decided I would do something a bit different, and over the years I have been asked numerous times to give my story. So this episode I am the other side of the desk and my turn to be asked the questions. I am joined by David Guest who was a colleague at the Flyfishing Journal.

Enjoy!

Casting With Ceri Jones : Ep. 197 What's in the box

On this week's episode I explain and run through my gear which I use to catch my ferox on Corrib. You don’t need high tech fish finders and expensive rods to catch a fish of a lifetime. Time on the water and knowledge is the most important thing you need.

I also tell the story of when I was fishing one evening in thick fog and experience firsthand Irish folklore involving fairies and castles. Also when my engine packed in, went straight on the oars and then took a great fish.

Enjoy!

Casting With Ceri Jones : Ep. 192 Corrib & Claret

In this week's episode I share a boat with Andy Barton and Colm Murphy on Lough Corrib. We had a great evening when wind and light conditions were perfect and the fish were up and taking. I talk about when all things come together and the flies that did the trick, dark skies and claret flies. Also the pulling power of the Leggy Octopus. Great sport on the Western Lakes is not only to be had in May, when conditions are right August can prove productive.

Casting With Ceri Jones : Ep. 180 Dave Egan

This week's episode I meet up with Doolin angler, Dave Egan. We met up and recorded our chat after a day on Lough Corrib while parked up at Balinduff Bay. He tells of his day taking 16 fish to the boat while fishing with his boat partner, Gerry. Dave needs no introduction on the Irish competition scene having achieved many titles including National Champion on his first attempt and Brown Bowl winner at the 2018 international on Lough Mask. He tells of his success in recent weeks and says its the best May he has experienced. Catching on buzzers, olives and Mayfly and already looking forward to next month fishing the caenis. He is one of the most passionate anglers I've met and probably has Corrib water running through his veins.

We chatted for a couple of hours so enough content for another episode, will put up part 2 soon. Dave is a mine of information and for anyone fishing Corrib this is a must listen to podcast, enjoy!

Casting With Ceri Jones : Ep. 179 Lough Corrib

In this episode I chat about my time this week on Corrib while taking time out on Malachy's island. Hatches of Mayfly are starting to show, how I caught some nice fish to over 3lb and my two top imitations. I also talk of my day with David Donnelly while buzzer fishing on the lower lake again getting stunning fish up to 4.5lb. A great start to my month stay in the West.

Enjoy!

Casting With Ceri Jones : Ep. 173 Ferox Red Letter Day

Hi guys, I've had a few requests lately from new patrons of the channel asking for more ferox content. So this week's episode I tell the story of a special day back in 2006 where I get 5 ferox in one day up to 12lb while fishing Corrib. Plus at the end of the day as nightime came I had an unexpected take. Day's like this don't come around that often.

Enjoy!

Casting With Ceri Jones : Ep. 157 Darren Duffy

This week I chat with Irish angler Darren Duffy from Cork. Even though he lives near the Black Water which has fished it all his life, it's the loughs he prefers to fish. Darren is a talented fly tier and has a feature in this Autumn issue of the Flyfishing Journal, showing his favourite patterns. He talks of the great fish he has had this season on Lough Sheelin and Ree while fishing the spent, plus how fishing the Mayfly nymph is becoming more popular and on its day can be deadly.

Casting With Ceri Jones : Ep. 149 Andy Barton, Lough Corrib

This week I meet up with another patron to the channel, Andy Barton. We spend a morning together on the lough and had great success, then recorded this chat at his house beside the lake. He tells us how his love for the Corrib started from a very young age on family holidays. A very modest angler and top guy!

Casting With Ceri Jones : Ep. 135 Ted Wherry

This week’s episode I chat with Lough Corrib expert Ted Wherry. I meet up with him for a few hours as he takes me out on his boat. The fishing was tough with only a few Mayfly coming off but managed to get a few fish. We fish around Ballynanty Bay and surrounding islands and talks of the drifts, the ECA and some funny stories thrown in.

Talks of his tactics fishing articulated lures, imitating the brickeen for the large browns on Corrib. Buzzer time on Sheelin and damsels, which is often overlooked. Plus goes on to talk of what some would call the cream of fishing , up at dawn fishing the caenis.
