Casting With Ceri Jones : Ep. 86 Gareth Lewis

This week I chat with Gareth Lewis, secretary of Gwent Angling Society. He has the River Usk running through his veins and has a real passion for wild browns. He is known to many for his love of tying and fishing micro flies, notably dries up to size 24 which he has great success on. Even tho he is no longer tying commercially, he still enjoys taking part in angling shows around the country. He also tells us how it all started for him while fishing as a small boy on the upper reaches of the Taff near his home in Merthyr.

This week's episode I chat with Dennis Williams an 88 year old fly fisherman from South Wales. He took me on my first day’s boat fishing as a young boy to Chew Valley lake. He was at the forefront of nymph and buzzer fishing back in the late 70s. He has fished with many great anglers back in the day notably Arthur Cove and Arthur Oglesby. He still fishes Chew and Rutland every season. He chats about seasons and anglers past and his love for the sea trout of South America and the salmon of Alaska.

This week Ceri visits Ystradfellte Reservoir to fish for wild brownies at autumn time. A jewel of Welsh Waters where fish over a pound are not uncommon and with a great chance of catching a 2lb specimen. Ceri also shares with us his method of fishing dries to pick out the better fish. A beautiful lake with its Rowan tree lined banks in full colour, free rising exquisitely coloured wild browns and Red Kites soaring above for company.
